Job Summary/Description:
KWQC is searching for the next meteorologist to join our experienced team. This scientist must know how to forecast accurately and be able to show and tell viewers that information in a way that’s easy to understand and entertaining. creative, content-driven producer to join our news team. We anticipate this position will join our weekend evening team, be an in-the-field reporter during severe weather, as well as provide newsroom support by shooting, editing, writing, and presenting news stories on-air and online. This schedule will be flexible with opportunities to fill in on weekday shows.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and easy-to-understand forecasts
• Prepare graphics to support the weather presentation
• Flexible schedule for severe weather & winter weather scenarios
• Work closely with the weather team in designing presentation style and editorial content for on-air weather presentations
• Developing and reporting news and weather stories on-air and online.
• Preparation of material for delivery of newscasts
• Post content to the website and social media platforms
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Belief in the power of local journalism
• A winning mentality, with the ability to identify the weather story and “own” the big weather story of the day.
• Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast weather
• Ability to tell the weather story in a way a viewer understands, through simple graphic design and presentation
• Dynamic in-studio and in-the-field presence
• Able to make quick decisions and handle breaking weather calmly
• Proficient in social media platforms
• Exceptional ability to tell visual and timely stories through video and sound
• Strong writing skills, using correct grammar
• Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
• Familiarity with ENPS, Edius, and Arc Publishing preferred
• Must be extremely flexible to work longer hours throughout the year
• A bachelor's degree in meteorology is preferred
• Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record
