We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Corporate Controller to join our Finance and Accounting team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing the month-end close process for the entire company (including full ownership and management of the general ledger system), reviewing and analyzing financial reports, managing a large accounting corporate team, ERP implementations, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies. This position requires a strong understanding of GAAP, 8+ years of accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the corporate controller in directing the organization's accounting functions, including cost, payables, and reporting.- Support the Shared Services Center, collaborate with its operations and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in delivering accounting services.
- Collaborate with the Shared Services Director as a peer, while providing leadership and guidance to optimize performance.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of financial reporting, planning, and budgeting systems.
- Support the development of corporate and required accounting policies and procedures, ensuring adherence across the organization.
- Supervise the preparation of periodic reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of all required documentation, adhering to corporate and accounting policies
- Improve processes impacting the accounting month-end and year-end close process
- Key contributor in developing and implementing robust internal accounting controls, including detailed standard operating procedures for corporate accounting activities.
- Review and management of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and fluctuation analyses
- Provide leadership and support to accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Collaborate with auditors to facilitate audit processes and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of SEC filings, including 10-Qs and 10-Ks
- Support management in the implementation of transformation efforts and continuous accounting system improvements
- Collaborate across departments and business partners such as IT, SEC reporting, FP&A, shared services and tax, regarding corporate accounting tasks
- Support the Corporate Controller and senior management with special projects and strategic initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance
- Proven experience with ERP systems; experience with system implementations or upgrades is a plus
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- CoStar, FloQast, Workiva, ADP experience is preferred
- Submit a criminal background and a credit check
- Legal right to work in the United States
- Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory training and adheres to related course deadlines
- Travel to remote Radio One locations may be required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in accounting; active CPA certification required. Minimum of 8 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a public company environment and/or public accounting firm.
