Job Summary/Description:
WJHG/WECP, the local leader in news and weather, is looking for a full-time meteorologist to join our award-winning weather team. This position requires knowledge and expertise in delivering weather to all platforms, broadcast and digital. Strong technical skills are necessary, as this position will provide weather coverage solo on our Streaming TV desk. Must have strong social media skills as well, and understand the importance of severe weather coverage in a hurricane market. This position is not for beginners; a minimum of two years of experience is required.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creating accurate weathercasts for on-air and all digital platforms.
- Cultivating, writing, and editing content pertaining to weather or news as needed for all platforms, including web, social media, streaming, and broadcast.
- Ability to operate a camera and report as needed, especially when pertaining to weather/environment-based stories.
- Ability to go live and operate a TVU/LiveU equipment solo, with a goal of doing live weathercasts from the field as directed by management.
- Fill in as needed on other weather shifts, including weekends, or anytime severe weather is imminent.
- Ability to stay calm, clear, and organized during breaking weather situations, and take direction from the chief meteorologist and news managers.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A BA/BS or Master's Degree in Meteorology, or other similar degree, with emphasis on broadcast.
- Prior professional experience working in news media as a meteorologist.
- Strong professional social media skills.
- Strong technical and writing skills.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
