Job Summary/Description:
WBTV is seeking a Broadcast Engineer/IT Technician. A Broadcast Engineer supports all live and recorded programming and post-production. Duties include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing studio and editing equipment. The Engineer interacts daily with all departments and will be responsible for following all WBTV and FCC standards and guidelines. The successful candidate will be able to combine solid leadership with a hands-on approach and broadcast engineering and IT management skills for a dominant full-power television station. The ability to oversee and interact with IT-based workflow in an automated environment and digital transmitter experience is important. Good communication skills in a fast-paced news environment are essential.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain all engineering aspects of the technical facility, including studio support, Master Control, field production support, and transmission of live/recorded events and programs.
• Have expert knowledge regarding equipment, technology, and systems, and be able to step in and assist in emergencies.
• Performs regular maintenance tasks, including repairs, equipment replacement, supplies, etc.
• Documents and executes necessary corrective actions as situations arise.
• Ensures all transmission equipment is operating correctly before and during live event telecasts - corrects and documents technical problems and reports them to the managers.
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and communication with other departments by maintaining discrepancy logs and equipment incident reports and regularly auditing these documents to identify areas where performance or process needs to improve.
• Assist the Chief Engineer and Director of Technology in overseeing and implementing Engineering projects.
• Must be able to insert and remove control room rack equipment weighing 25-50 pounds with the help of another employee.
• Maintains building needs.
• Commanding knowledge of Windows operating systems and network management.
• Knowledge of networking, routing, and IP addressing.
• Manage the maintenance and repair of all company facilities associated with our station. This includes HVAC, generators, security systems, satellite dishes, electrical, hardware, etc.
• Manage the maintenance and repair of the towers, antennas, and transmission lines/connections.
• Must be available to work during breaking news situations, severe weather, new system integrations and updates, and provide on-call services 24/7.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to all work situations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Must have at least 2 years of working experience in Broadcast Engineering-IT.
• A Bachelor's Degree in IT and Electronics or related is preferred, but is not required.
• On-the-job and/or formal training in repairing Broadcast Facilities.
• Display and maintain a professional appearance, based on station standards and professional demeanor.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to operate and adapt in high-pressure situations.
• Professional, communicative, highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and focused individual traits.
• Knowledge of Crispin Automation, Ross Overdrive, and Harmonic servers is a plus.
