Overview and Responsibilities:
CBS Miami is looking for an experienced, decisive and organized manager to lead our assignment desk operations in the role of EP of Content and Coverage! This role is responsible for driving all aspects of daily newsgathering, breaking news and coordination between teams. The ideal candidate is a shown newsroom leader with strong editorial judgment and quick decision-making skills which will help the station achieve its overall mission and goals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage a team of assignment editors – making sure critical content & editorial decisions are executed at a high level in real-time
- Identify, assign, and coordinate news coverage for all platforms
- Monitor all news sources, including police scanners, social media, wire services, tips, viewer phone calls, etc.
- Dispatch and coordinate news crews to cover assigned stories
- Run and update content system efficiently to assure appropriate information is available
- Maintain awareness of ongoing stories, potential follow-ups and assisting in long-term planning
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, fire departments, government & community agencies
- Field incoming calls from the public and assessing their news value
Basic qualifications:
- 5+ years in news management
- Highly skilled journalist with strong ethics
- Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours
Additional Qualifications:
- Passion for news & champion of brand through content, culture & community
- Degree in journalism or equal work experience preferred
- Knowledge of the South Florida market
