Job Summary/Description:
First Alert 4 in St. Louis is looking for an experienced Meteorologist /MMJ to join our award-winning Newsroom and market-leading weather team. The Meteorologist will work closely with our Chief Meteorologist, news managers, and producers to provide comprehensive weather coverage in the daily newscasts, as well as severe weather. You'll also function as an MMJ covering weather, climate, and environmental stories.
Weather-related duties - Analyze raw scientific data, models, and other available and relevant information to create an accurate weather forecast for our viewing area. Create a compelling and engaging weathercast for both on-air and digital audiences. Accurately forecast and track severe weather and communicate that to our audience.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Story Content creation - coordinates story development with the producer and Content Center.
- Reporting - reports on assigned stories live and on tape in a clear and concise manner
- News Gathering - develops ideas for stories, calls outside sources to gather facts for on-air and online reporting.
- Production - prepares scripts, shoots, and edits stories
- Ability to create and report memorable stories that resonate with KMOV's viewers
- Participates in community outreach efforts, including live shots and station appearances as required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology / Broadcast Journalism.
- Minimum three years of experience as a Meteorologist /MMJ.
- Experience with Edius, Avid, i-news, internet production tools, proficiency with MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record for handling severe weather events.
- Strong writing, editing, and shooting skills.
- Strong on-air presence, must be a creative storyteller with strong live skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and follow through on projects until completion.
- Attention to detail, along with the ability to work effectively under assigned deadlines
- Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts, especially considering the unpredictable nature of weather events.
- Fluent with social media platforms and social management tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
