Job Summary/Description:
WEAU, the leading news station in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled full-time Technical Media Producer (TMP) to join our dynamic team. This role combines live newscast directing with essential master control operations, playing a crucial part in delivering high-quality broadcasts to our viewers.
As a TMP, you'll be at the heart of our operations, working closely with producers and anchors to execute fast-paced live news broadcasts and ensure the seamless delivery of all on-air content. Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Directing Live and Pre-Recorded Productions: Prepare and direct live and pre-recorded news broadcasts, special programs, breaking news, live sports, and severe weather coverage using automation systems.
• Master Control Operations: Monitor on-air signals for WEAU, ingest daily programming and commercials, and ensure FCC compliance for all broadcasts. This includes commercial playback, recording, ingesting, and segmenting material.
• Technical Execution: Operate production video switchers, audio consoles, graphics systems, and supporting equipment in the control room.
• Collaboration: Work closely with newsroom personnel, producers, and other departments to coordinate and produce top-rated television and digital programs.
• Equipment Management: Perform regular care and maintenance of equipment and the studio, and have a strong understanding of all equipment in the studios and production areas.
• Automation Proficiency: Proficiently operate master control automation systems and be able to code and execute local live productions with automation.
• Newsroom Systems: Work with ENPS, the newsroom computer system, to integrate production elements.
• Quality Control: Provide quality control support for both network and local programming.
• Adaptability: Be prepared for a variable work schedule, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, due to changing shifts and station projects.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Fulfill other duties as necessary to meet daily demands and station needs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Experience: Relevant work experience in broadcast media, including master control operations and/or newscast directing, is preferred.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is essential for monitoring on-air signals, transmitters, logs, and executing complex live productions.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly adapt to instant changes in newscasts and modify pre-planned scripting of news automation.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and communicate clearly with a team.
• Work Ethic: Dependable, well-organized, focused, and able to multitask and work calmly under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
• Self-Starter: A self-starter with a willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work various schedules, including weekends, overnights, and holidays.
