Job Description
Versant Media Field Operations is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Full-Time ENG (Electronic News Gathering) Photographer to join our broadcast news gathering team. This role will report to the Manager Field Operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in news photography, technical expertise with professional camera and lighting equipment, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and a passion for visual storytelling.
What You’ll Do:
· Maintain a professional demeanor and attention to detail under pressure.
· Capture high-quality video and audio content for daily news coverage, live broadcasts, and special reports, in live and prerecorded environments that enhance storytelling.
· Operate a wide range of professional broadcast camera systems, lighting equipment, audio gear, and bonded cellular or satellite transmission systems.
· Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and assignment editors to ensure visually compelling and editorially sound storytelling.
· Ensure all shots meet network standards for quality and editorial integrity.
· Safely transport, set up, and break down equipment on location.
· Quickly adapt to breaking news scenarios, adjusting coverage plans and equipment setups as needed.
· Maintain all assigned equipment in good working order; report and coordinate repairs and replacements as necessary.
· Apply creative techniques in lighting, composition, and camera movement to enhance storytelling.
· Assist with live shot setups, including lighting, framing, and IFB/mic coordination for on-air talent.
· Monitor and troubleshoot live transmission feeds from the field as required.
· Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies during field assignments.
· Work flexible hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
· Prioritize and manage multiple production assignments simultaneously.
Qualifications
What You Must Have:
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Television Production or equivalent experience.
· 5 years of professional experience as an ENG photographer or camera operator in a broadcast news environment.
· Strong technical expertise with professional video cameras, lenses, lighting kits, audio equipment, and live transmission technologies
· Proficient in operating Panasonic P2, Sony FX Cinema Series, and Canon 5D cameras.
· Knowledge of LiveU and other streaming/mobile technologies, including 5G.
· Skilled in adjusting lighting for optimal exposure in various conditions.
· Proven ability to shoot under tight deadlines and adjust quickly to changing editorial direction.
· Strong news judgment and understanding of journalistic standards.
· Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with reporters, producers, and other crew members in the field.
· Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50+ lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
· Valid passport and driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to drive company vehicles to assignments.
· Commitment to maintaining the highest levels of quality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all work.
What Would Make You a Stand-out:
· FAA Part 107 drone certification is a strong plus
· Experience with various LED lighting instruments, as well as DMX lighting systems.
· Experience in EFP (Electronic Field Production) and multi-camera environments.
· Knowledge of digital-first production methods and content optimization for social/video platforms.
· Familiarity with Movi/Gimble-Ronin camera stabilization systems.
· Comfortable applying basic makeup to guests and talent.

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from a designated worksite.
