Position Overview
KSL NewsRadio is seeking an individual to join the team in an on-call capacity as an anchor/host. This individual will provide coverage during vacations and other absences by acting as a fill-in anchor/host. On-call shifts can fall anytime from 4AM-1PM and 2PM-7PM. This anchor/host should be able to provide clean and concise news updates and have the presence and personality to co-host 4-hour news blocks.
NOTE: This is a generic posting. Management assigns responsibilities on a regular and/or rotating basis depending upon company needs.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
- This position can be onsite or remote depending on business needs and manager discretion
What You Will Do
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Pull audio, writes, produces and performs newscasts or anchors news updates as scheduled
- Debrief live details of breaking news with show hosts as needed
- Willing to train and co-host entire news blocks. Responsibilities include working with news executive producer to perform news blocks, manage transition between show elements, perform breaking news and maintain energy and personality for long-form news programming.
- Present topics and interviews that are compelling, informative and interesting and adhere to station’s format philosophy
- Collaborate with show producers to create performance ideas and audio opportunities
- Contribute creative ideas on show development, topics, guests and format execution
- Develop and maintain professional and technical capabilities in order to make full use of the tools and opportunities provided by the station and to expand personal contribution to the Company
- Work with sales department to develop client relationships and generate ideas and revenue
- Work in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Work effectively in a team environment
- Consistently work hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including odd shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
- Additional responsibilities include writing, interviewing and general newsroom support in the morning, afternoon, or evening as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills And Experience We Are Looking For
- Three to five (3-5) years on-air experience with a proven record of on-air success, or equivalent
- College degree in Journalism or relevant field preferred
- Ability to conduct talk shows with charisma, knowledge, curiosity about the news of the day
- Conversational, well-read, knowledgeable and articulate in current affairs
- Ability to enunciate clearly, speak confidently and interpret and read copy fluently
- Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals in creating a distinctive sound
- Ability to operate studio equipment as needed
- Desire and ability to innovate show segments and develop creative new performance ideas
- Ability to work in a fast and concise manner under pressure with demonstrated ability to present live and ad-lib unscripted performance with continuity, meaning and clarify
- In-house audition under the direction of KSL Program Director may be required
Physical Demands
- Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
Compensation
$20.00 - $30.00 an hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
