Summary:
The Virginian-Pilot is seeking an Education Reporter to cover a region with diverse public k-12 school districts and world-class colleges and universities. This high-impact role focuses on watchdog journalism and compelling storytelling, requiring creativity, resourcefulness and impeccable news judgment.
What you will do:
Deliver investigative, explanatory and feature stories on education topics
Produce diverse content including photos, videos, tweets, web updates, and in-depth print articles
Cultivate sources at all levels in public k-12 divisions and higher ed institutions
Drill down on national and state education issues to reveal local impact
Collaborate with reporters, photographers and editors
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to breaking news
What you will bring:
A collaborative, team-oriented approach
A passion for in-depth reporting and storytelling
Proficiency in various content creation formats
Ability to work weekends and occasional breaking news shifts
A college degree and at least two years of daily journalism experience (preferred)
