About the Role:
The Corus Entertainment/Global News team is seeking a candidate for a full time Sr. Electronic Technician position based in Global Halifax reporting to the Manager News Technology. Applicants will have proven technical skills and the ability to collaborate well with all customers of the technical department. A successful candidate demonstrates our Corus Entertainment values. This is a bargaining unit position of Electronic Technician. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including early morning, days, evenings, weekends, and on-call. Some travel or overnight stays may be required.

This is a unionized Group 5 position
You will contribute by:
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of broadcast systems, facilities, and equipment.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems at broadcast and transmitter facilities.
- Be able to perform well under stressful conditions.
- Ensure quality, schedule and budget objectives are met on and timelines of projects assigned.
- Implement and document all temporary or permanent installations which meet the needs of operations or technical requirements.
- Participate in equipment purchasing or system design recommendations.
- Work with third party vendors and suppliers.
- Create drawings of broadcast systems using the most current programs such as Visio.
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, Office 365, CoPilot.
- Provide Business/Broadcast IT/Network system support.
- Work closely with News Operations to maintain a consistent and high-quality product.
- Work rotational shifts on weekdays and possible overnight shifts, weekends, as necessary.
- Must be able to travel and work alone at remote locations under difficult conditions.
- Assist and relieve operators when necessary.
- Drive long distances to and from transmitter locations when required.
- Perform other duties as required to the above.
Skills and experience you will bring:
- Graduate of a recognized post-secondary Broadcast Technology program, Computer technology, engineering, or a Minimum 5 years in the field of Electronics.
- In-depth knowledge of high power RF, over the air DTV transmitters and equipment.
- Experience with microwave and satellite systems.
- Knowledge required to trouble-shoot and maintain television transmitter sites.
- The ability to troubleshoot Broadcast Electronic systems.
- An understanding of digital video/audio signals and their integration into the Broadcast system.
- Working knowledge of Video compression, Codecs, graphics, and video editing software.
- Working knowledge of computer networks and IP infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of computer software and hardware with the ability to install and troubleshoot operating systems and software.
- A mechanical aptitude with hand/power tool experiences a definite asset.
- Understanding of Live Television production.
- Demonstrate ability to navigate and maintain system flows with technical drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio and Excel is a required asset.
- Team Player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail is a key asset.
- Able to grasp new concepts quickly.
- Exceptional people skills and a passion for building and maintaining working relationships.
- Ability to work independently or with a team.
- Possess a valid appropriate class of driver’s license and a clear driving record.
- A willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology, workflows and integrating systems.
