Job Summary/Description:
Eastern Carolina’s #1 news station, WITN News, is seeking a dynamic Chief Meteorologist. Are you a born leader? We’re looking for someone to help guide our First Alert team and take us to the next level. The ideal candidate has a knack for communication, a passion for meteorology, and speaks the social media language. This position is not for someone who wants to sit around and wait for the weather to happen. It is for someone who loves living in a place where we get nearly every kind of weather you could imagine… even snow! The successful candidate must be organized, driven, creative, and an active content creator. We are looking for a top-notch meteorologist who can lead our team, tell great weather stories, keep people safe, and be ahead of the curve.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Be a strong communicator on air, in person, and online
• Be well-versed in the latest weather technology
• Be an accurate forecaster
• Be able to coach other meteorologists
• Be passionate about community events and involvement
• Be consistent and creative with digital weather content
• Deliver forecasts from studio or other live location
• Write clearly and concisely
• Create clear, accurate graphics
• Love weather
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Strong verbal/written communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and well with a diverse group of people
• Flexibility and on-the-spot problem-solving skills
• Ability to balance the demands of both long and short-term projects while meeting daily deadlines
• Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology
• Several years of on-air meteorology experience
• Willingness to work flexible shifts and be on call, including wall-to-wall weather coverage when necessary
• Willingness to live and work in Greenville, NC, and the surrounding area
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
