The Market Accounting Manager oversees the full financial operations of the market, including month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. This role manages payroll and HR coordination, supervises the Business Office team, and ensures strong internal controls, GAAP compliance, SOX 404 standards, and successful audit outcomes. The Market Accounting Manager also leads accounts payable, receivables, credit and collections, and partners closely with the Regional Controller on strategic financial planning. In addition, this role serves as a key liaison across departments including Traffic, Continuity, and Corporate to support efficient operations and accurate financial performance. A strong command of financial systems and the ability to lead, coach, and develop staff is essential.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage financial close within deadlines, prepare financial statements, with appropriate supporting reconciliations
- Coordinate with Regional Controller to manage and prepare annual budgets, prepare periodic re-forecasts, sales projections, pacings and strategic plans
- Analyze actuals and forecast variances to budget
- Process payroll, review and approve payroll input and reports and serve as local Human Resources coordinator
- Manage accounts payable, invoicing, accounts receivable, credit & collections
- Review and evidence approval of several accounting documents
- Ensure effective controls, policies, procedures, GAAP, SOX 404 compliance and satisfactory audits for market(s) supported
- Coordinate local insurance programs, fixed assets and taxes with Corporate
- Interact with Regional Controller
- Supervise Business Office staff, including hiring , firing, performance evaluations, administering merits, rewarding, disciplinary actions, coaching, training, development and planning , assigning and directing others’ work
- Interface and liaison with Traffic and Continuity staff
- Financial systems and software expert
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Prior broadcast experience required
- Must be results oriented with strong accounting and financial skills
- Expertise with Lawson, Crystal, Hyperion and Marketron systems a plus
- Strong analytical, problem solving and reasoning skills
- Ability to team, collaborate and work with various levels of staff, including executives
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel and Word
- Proven supervisory skills
- Knowledge of traffic systems (e.g Wide Orbit) other financial systems, e.g Lawson
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team to include but not limited to:
- Provide regular constructive feedback
- Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner
- Provide ongoing guidance and support for growth and development
- Deploy effective coaching skills
- Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws
- Ability to effectively administer performance reviews, and corrective action plans as appropriate.
- Ensure team (s) attend mandatory department mandatory company training (s) as required.
- Submit to a criminal background check

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required; a CPA or MBA is strongly preferred. 5–7 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, ideally within media, broadcasting, or a similarly fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
