Global Calgary’s News Department is currently seeking a full-time News Anchor to join their market-leading Global News Hour at 6 and 11 team.
About the Role:
Global Calgary’s News Department is currently seeking a permanent full-time News Anchor to join their news team. This position will include five days a week of anchoring duties for Global Calgary’s News Hour at 6 and 11. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience anchoring and reporting in a large market. They will hold a degree/diploma in Journalism from a recognized post-secondary institution and possess a strong background in broadcast and online journalism. Applicants should be aware that all shifts, including weekends, days, and nights and statutory holidays are possible. This position reports to the Station Manager/News Director.

- Co-anchor Global News Hour at 6, Monday through Friday.
- Anchor Global News at 11 for Calgary and Edmonton, Monday through Friday.
- Pitch, write and conduct interviews each morning.
- Engage audience through dynamic anchoring of local content.
- Produce local news content from video gathered in the field along with affiliate, national and international content.
- Work with news leaders on breaking news coverage and execution.
- Display creativity in production techniques to ensure all content is compelling.
- Anchor other newscasts as required including mornings, weekends and holidays.
- Participate in the research and development of original, creative story ideas.
- Participate in Global Calgary promotional & community activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A post-secondary diploma, certificate or equivalent, in a broadcasting or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ on-air experience in a major market newsroom environment.
- Demonstrated ability in multi-functional asks such as shooting, editing and producing.
- Strong on-air presentation skills with an emphasis on interviews and unscripted material.
- Ability to engage and inform viewers on all platforms.
