Job Summary/Description:
Are you a morning person who thrives on the adrenaline of a breaking news cycle? Do you have the rare ability to spot a great story, polish a script until it shines, and lead a team with both urgency and empathy—all before most people have had their first cup of coffee? We’re looking for an AM Managing Editor to work closely with Good Morning Arizona’s Executive Producer to elevate the undisputed #1 morning news program in the Valley.
With more resources at your fingertips than any other station in the market, you won't just be "managing" the reporters —you'll be driving the most powerful news engine in Arizona. You’ve been in the trenches as an on-air reporter, so you know exactly what it takes to bring a story to life on every platform, from the big screen in the living room to the small screen in the palm of a viewer’s hand.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
What You’ll Do:
• Partner for morning success: Work hand-in-hand with the AM Executive Producer to craft the vision, pace, and editorial direction of the Valley's most-watched morning show.
• Help lead the #1 morning team: Direct the editorial flow of Good Morning Arizona, ensuring every hour of our market-leading coverage is accurate, urgent, and visually compelling.
• Elevate every script: Use your expert eye to review and refine scripts and rundowns, helping our team of reporters and producers find the strongest "hook" and the most impactful storytelling.
• Drive multi-platform excellence: Ensure our content isn't just "on TV," but optimized for streaming, social media, and our digital apps the moment news breaks across the Valley.
• Mentor and coach: Draw on your own on-air experience to provide real-time feedback to reporters and anchors, helping them level up their delivery and field presence.
• Own the "Big Story": Make the tough calls on coverage priorities, leveraging our massive resource pool to ensure we are leading the market on the stories that matter most to our community.
• Prioritize our winning culture: Use your excellent people skills to keep the team motivated, collaborative, and focused during the high-pressure morning hours.
Qualifications/Requirements:
What You Bring:
• On-air reporting roots: You’ve been there, done that, and have the "reporter's gut" to prove it. You understand the challenges of the field and the nuances of live television.
• Proven leadership: You have experience managing people and processes, with a track record of building trust and driving results in a high-stakes newsroom environment.
• Collaborative spirit: You thrive in a partnership environment, working closely with the AM Executive Producer to ensure a seamless, high-energy broadcast.
• A "Digital-First" brain: You don't see digital as an afterthought; you see it as the front line of how we reach our audience across Arizona.
• Script-doctor skills: You can take a standard news script and turn it into a compelling narrative that keeps viewers from changing the channel.
• Exceptional EQ: You know how to deliver tough feedback with kindness and how to keep a newsroom calm when the "breaking news" light starts flashing.
• Morning enthusiasm: You actually like the early shift (or you’ve mastered the art of looking like you do!) and bring that energy to the team every single day.
• Urgency and accuracy: You move fast, but you never sacrifice the facts. You understand that being first is great, but being right is everything.
Why You’ll Love It Here:
• Lead the market leader: You’ll be at the helm of Good Morning Arizona, the program that starts the Valley’s day and sets the tone for the entire city’s news cycle.
• Unmatched resources: From the best technology to the largest team in the market, you’ll have everything you need to win the morning every single day.
• A seat at the table: This isn't a "follow orders" role; you’ll be a key strategic voice in our newsroom’s evolution.
• Innovation-focused: We’re not stuck in the "way we’ve always done it." We’re constantly experimenting with new ways to tell stories across platforms.
• Real community impact: You’ll see the direct result of your work in the stories that help, inform, and inspire our neighbors across the Valley.
Ready to lead the #1 morning show in the Valley and make your mark? Let’s talk.

• At least five years working a major market newsroom assignment desk (or equivalent experience) preferred
• Detail-driven editor who is organized and can develop a logistics plan every day
• Outstanding editorial skills, interpersonal communication skills, and time management skills
• Scheduling flexibility is required
