Group Summary
The Media Partnerships Group is responsible for sales and activation of the NBA, WNBA, NBA G-League, Basketball Africa League, USA Basketball Owned and Operated media channels. This includes, but is not limited to, NBA.com, the NBA App, NBA TV, and NBA Social Media Channels. The group is collaborations with all the NBA’s global media partners to effectuate media sales across the full ecosystem.
Position Summary
This Associate Vice President will oversee Pricing, Planning, Packaging, and Media Sales Operations across the full media portfolio. This leader plays a pivotal role in shaping monetization strategy, advancing ad‑tech capabilities, optimizing programmatic revenue, and driving operational excellence across all platforms. The AVP will directly manage a team across three core functions.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee three interconnected media functions: Pricing & Planning, Ad Tech & Operations, and Media Sales Collateral including long‑range and tactical media planning cycles, ensuring alignment with business objectives and inventory utilization goals
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of professionals across pricing, planning, ad tech, and sales enablement
- Oversight of pricing frameworks, packaging strategies, and sponsorship structures that support revenue growth and marketplace competitiveness
- Create monetization structures for first‑party audience data to enhance targeting, personalize ad experiences, and unlock new revenue streams across direct and programmatic channels
- Identify emerging media trends, formats, and marketplace shifts to proactively shape monetization strategy
- Lead the strategy, roadmap, and optimization of ad‑tech systems, including ad servers, data platforms, measurement tools, and workflow automation
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance yield, improve delivery accuracy, and support evolving advertiser needs
- Champion automation, workflow optimization, and technology adoption to scale operations and reduce friction
- Oversee the programmatic business across open exchange, PMP, and programmatic guaranteed channels
- Identify, evaluate, and manage SSP, DSP, data, and measurement partners to maximize revenue and operational efficiency
- Monitor marketplace dynamics and partner performance to inform investment and partnership decisions
- Serve as a senior liaison to Sponsorship, Product, Technology, Finance, and external ad‑tech partners
- Provide strategic insights and thought leadership to inform product development, go‑to‑market strategies, and client engagement
- Lead the development of annual and best‑in‑class media sales collateral, ensuring consistency, clarity, and competitive differentiation of opportunities
- Translate product capabilities, audience insights, and marketplace positioning into compelling narratives
- Ensure all materials support revenue growth, advertiser education, and marketplace leadership
- Promote cross‑training and knowledge‑sharing to strengthen team versatility and operational resilience
Required Education / Professional Experience
- 12+ years of experience in media pricing, planning, operations, or ad‑tech leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
- Deep understanding of media monetization across linear, digital, and programmatic channels
- Proven success in leading cross‑functional teams and driving strategic initiatives
- Strong analytical acumen and fluency in media planning tools, ad‑tech platforms, and performance metrics
- Proficiency with enterprise media planning, ad‑serving, and yield management platforms (e.g., Operative, FreeWheel, Google Ad Manager), with the ability to translate tool capabilities into pricing, planning, and sales‑enablement strategy
- Experience driving programmatic advertising ecosystems, including SSPs, DSPs, and private marketplaces, with a focus on maximizing yield and operational efficiency
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
