Your role
Le réveil Nouvelle-Écosse et Terre-Neuve, our flagship morning radio show, is looking for a dynamic new host! The show is based in our Halifax station and broadcast across Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. We are seeking a high-energy team player who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You should have a finger on the pulse of current events in both provinces and a deep connection to the Acadian and French-speaking communities of Atlantic Canada.
A proven ability to go live and “off script” at a moment’s notice is highly valued. Working closely with a tight-knit team, you will help craft a show that is bold and authentic while remaining inquisitive, relatable and inclusive in line with the program’s mandate. Your mission is simple — to provide our audience with the essential information they need to start their day. This role requires a strong self-starter with a passion for storytelling.
Reporting to the Producer and the Senior Manager, News and Programming, for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, you will take a lead role in both the preparation and presentation of the show. You will build strong relationships with our audience, both on air and across our digital platforms. You will be a key contributor to the planning, design and organization of the program, proposing content ideas and conducting interviews on or off air; you will also interact with program participants.
As the host of a Radio-Canada morning show, you are more than just a presenter — you are the face of our team and a vital voice for the community.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material on radio, television and/or digital platforms. You may be involved in developing and executing the program, and the direction of the program can often be influenced by your knowledge and performance capabilities. Your work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada programming and/or journalistic policies and standards, but there is a requirement for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.
Key tasks:
Contribute to the planning, design and organization of programs that are typically highly formatted; ensure the preparation of material for broadcast.
Propose content/segment ideas, suggest and line up guests or interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, interview on or off air, and provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.
Interact spontaneously with program participants, such as guests and interviewees, members of the audience and phone-in callers.
Maintain your expertise in fields related to program topics.
Participate in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation.
Present and host a weekday radio morning show.
Establish and maintain a connection with audiences and the broader public across all digital platforms.
As required, perform the following tasks:
Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer on other programs.
Conduct research using a variety of sources.
Edit program material.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
What you bring:
University degree in journalism/communications or equivalent
Five (5) or more years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry and an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Atlantic Canada and to daily news
Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills
Ability to generate original content/segment ideas and creative treatments
Excellent communication skills
Ability to evaluate and analyze a broad range of national and international issues
Familiarity with issues affecting Acadian and French-speaking communities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador
Ability to tell stories with clarity
Ease with live work
Ability to present live events and breaking news
Strong interpersonal and team-playing skills
Ability to be creative, flexible and self-motivated
Bilingualism (French and English)
