CBC Network Radio is hiring for a one-year temporary full time Producer position to be assigned to the program Unreserved. This is an on-site position that can be based in any CBC location in Canada.
The program, Unreserved, is the fearless audio space for Indigenous voices — our cousins, our aunties, our elders, our heroes. It is an hour-long weekly program and podcast that brings Indigenous perspectives to stories and showcases Indigenous storytelling and experiences from across the country. Host, Rosanna Deerchild guides us on the path to better understand our shared story. Together, we learn and unlearn, laugh and become gentler in all our relations.
Your Role:
In your role as a Producer, you have a strong connection to Indigenous communities and a deep knowledge of Indigenous issues. You want to create content that develops and amplifies Indigenous stories, voices and talent.
Reporting to the Senior Producer, you are responsible for pitching enterprise stories and identifying episode themes and arcs. You excel at finding and pitching story ideas, tracking down experts and storytellers. You are proficient in audio editing software and can provide guidance to your colleagues in this area.
As a Producer, you are a talented writer/storyteller, a strong critical thinker, and have relevant experience in broadcasting.
Key Responsibilities:
You will participate in the production, direction and/or post-production of a radio program and/or program segments; and produce content yourself but also supervise others producing content.
You will gather audio elements in the field as required and mix audio items for the program.
You will work to encourage conversation in our social media community; and write online articles.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Minimum three years’ relevant experience in journalism and storytelling.
Deep knowledge of and connection to Canada’s Indigenous community.
Strong pitching, chasing and writing skills.
Strong digital and social media knowledge.
Excellent team player.
Demonstrated leadership abilities.
Critical thinking skills.
Initiative and creativity.
Experience working in the field.
Digital editing skills and knowledge of content management systems
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next
step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:
