How you will make an impact:
Guiding the work of enhancing CBC's web-based digital ad solutions and extending it to include native mobile digital ads;
Collaborating with product, internal stakeholders & external clients to implement new ad solutions in support of our revenue and marketing goals including support for major events such as future Olympic Games;
Supporting the Advertising Experience cross-functional team in assessing the feasibility and prioritization of new work; breaking it down and clarifying requirements to ensure ease of delivery each sprint;
Working with Architects, Quality Engineers and Developers to understand system designs, technical requirements and quality expectations to ensure compliance during development;
Supporting the delivery of sprint work by helping the team identify and remove any development impediments, escalating issues when needed;
Establishing team level development best practices to ensure code is scalable, maintainable and testable, ensuring that they align with broader departmental best practices;
Establishing team level development processes such as pull request (PR) review policies, release management and managing technical debt;
Ensuring our ad experiences uphold our inclusion and accessibility requirements
Fostering open communication within your team by being open to feedback and constructive debate;
Supervising a team of 4-5 Developers who report directly to you;
Supporting your reports with regular one-on-one conversations, mentoring and coaching;
Identifying opportunities for learning and growth for your reports, providing technical feedback and professional guidance;
Ensuring the team has the capacity to deliver work on time through managing time cards and absence requests (e.g. vacation time), and supporting hiring.
What you bring to our team:
You have a combination of training and experience. A Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their skills this way. You have the knowledge and understanding of software development best practices. You are passionate about learning new technologies and exploring innovative solutions;
You have 5 or more years of experience in senior software development or other engineering roles and a demonstrated ability to provide technical and team leadership for other developers;
You are a strong communicator. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives;
You have experience with mentoring and giving guidance and feedback to other developers;
You are able to create strong working relationships both inside and outside of your team to ensure work is delivered and meets requirements;
You are experienced in managing and fostering compliance with: coding standards, quality management practices, source code management practices, continuous integration pipelines (tooling e.g. - Jenkins, CircleCI) and release management processes;
You have in-depth knowledge of engineering practices and foundational concepts of software development, with experience in web development with JavaScript/TypeScript and React and familiarity with Android development in Kotlin and/or iOS development in Swift;
You have worked with ad technologies such as Google Ad Manager and have built digital ad experiences; and understand the importance of audience impact and user experience to a media company and the effect ads may have on that;
You can quickly understand new technologies and respond to change by learning and adapting;
Have knowledge in the software development lifecycle and Agile best practices;
You are knowledgeable in automated testing, its constraints, and how to build quality management processes using tools such as Cypress, Appium and/or Jest;
You are an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in your workplace and understand the positive advantage this commitment gives to your work;
Are comfortable working with remote team members.
