Production Editors are craft specialists responsible for transforming raw material into engaging, high-quality video stories through the art of editing. Working closely with producers, journalists and production teams, the Production Editor applies advanced technical skills and strong storytelling instincts to build clear, impactful narratives using picture, sound and graphics.
CBC Production Editors play a critical role in shaping the visual language of our journalism, applying craft expertise to transform raw material into stories that inform, engage and resonate with audiences.

This role is a specialized craft position focused on post-production expertise and visual storytelling execution. Production Editors contribute creatively to the shaping of stories through editing craft, while editorial direction and story ownership remain the responsibility of producers and editorial leadership.
Work is performed according to CBC and industry standards, with significant scope for independent judgment, initiative and creative problem solving within the editing process.
Key Responsibilities

Shape story structure, pacing, and tone through thoughtful use of picture and sound.
Interpret editorial direction and translate it into compelling visual storytelling.
Work collaboratively with producers, journalists, and other creative partners throughout the post-production process.
Integrate graphics, music, sound design, and visual effects to enhance storytelling.
Develop creative visual treatments that support the tone and clarity of the story.
Adapt content for a range of distribution environments, including broadcast and digital platforms.
Evaluate and select footage for narrative impact, pacing, and visual coherence.
Maintain high technical and creative standards while working within production deadlines.
Contribute creative problem-solving and workflow insight within post-production environments.
Editors in this role should be comfortable working across evolving storytelling formats and delivery environments, adapting visual approaches and post-production workflows to suit different audiences, platforms and viewing experiences.
What We’re Looking For

Approximately four years of professional editing experience, including at least three years directly related to video editing in a broadcast, digital media, or post-production environment.
A strong understanding of television and digital program production and post-production methods, including how editing, graphics, sound, and other craft areas interact within production environments.
Proven editorial judgment and the ability to shape compelling visual narratives through picture and sound.
Strong sense of pacing, structure, and visual storytelling.
High proficiency with Avid Media Composer.
Experience with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop for graphics and visual treatments.
Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and Media Encoder is an asset.
