General Assignment Reporter (Multimedia Focus)
The Arizona Daily Star is seeking a versatile, curious and digitally savvy reporter to join our newsroom as a General Assignment Reporter with a strong emphasis on multimedia storytelling.
This is a fast-paced role for a journalist who is just as comfortable in the field as they are behind a camera — and in front of it. We’re looking for someone who can cover a wide range of stories while producing compelling content across platforms.
Position Responsibilities
- Report on a variety of topics, including breaking news, community issues, features, and trending stories
- Shoot and edit your own photos, video, and audio in the field
- Create engaging multimedia content optimized for web and social platforms
- Produce short-form and long-form video for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and more
- Appear on camera in short, informative, and engaging social media videos
- Write clear, accurate and timely stories for digital and print audiences
- Spot trends and develop story ideas that resonate with local audiences
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Self-starter who can juggle multiple assignments and pivot quickly on breaking news
- Strong visual storytelling skills, including photography and video production
- Comfort both behind and in front of the camera, including speaking on video for social media
- Experience shooting, editing, and publishing content using mobile and/or professional equipment
- Creativity and fluency in producing content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms
- Solid news judgment and an understanding of what drives audience engagement
- Strong writing, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
- A digital-first mindset and willingness to experiment with new storytelling formats
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
