Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking two Broadcast Sound Engineers.
About the Position:
The Broadcast Sound Engineer works on the News Production team to provide technical support for the CPR newsroom. This role has a mix of scheduled production responsibilities such as live board operation for Colorado Matters, preparing promos and audio segments for live shows, supporting taped interviews in the studio, completing Colorado Today podcast post-production, mixing news features, providing live event sound reinforcement and offering audio training to the CPR newsroom. This role provides journalists and producers with the technical support needed to create, produce, and deliver high-quality audio storytelling to air, enabling exceptional audience experiences across CPR's platforms.
The new hire is expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting - this is not a remote position. However, a hybrid schedule is available that requires a minimum of 3 days in the office each week.
About You:
You’re a skilled audio producer who can record, edit, mix and troubleshoot audio in both studio and live event environments. Strong attention to detail is essential, as your work supports live broadcasts, tight deadlines, and complex technical operations. You’re able to remain calm under pressure in fast-paced production settings. You have excellent communication and active listening skills that enable you to build effective working relationships with internal and external teams. You bring curiosity, reliability, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills to your work, along with a willingness to support the broader needs of the team when priorities shift. You take accountability for your work and demonstrate emotional intelligence when navigating days where priorities or focuses shift.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
A minimum of 3 years of experience in audio production, including proficiency with professional Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
- Experience recording, editing, mixing and troubleshooting audio in both studio and live event environments.
- Strong understanding of broadcast audio signal flow, microphone techniques, live sound reinforcement, and audio recording equipment.
-
Excellent communication and active listening skills when collaborating with diverse teams. A service-oriented approach to supporting internal and external stakeholders.
-
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, and perform successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and shift focus under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Education Equivalency:
-
A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
Don't meet every single requirement? Research has shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification.
