Marketing Specialist to join our team at Michigan.com and
The Detroit News. In this fast-paced media environment, you’ll play a key role in positioning and promoting our brands and products across all platforms. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, skilled in social media strategy, and energized by new challenges.
You’ll collaborate across departments, contribute to world-class events, and help expand our subscriber base and audience engagement, all while gaining firsthand experience in how a modern newsroom operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support marketing initiatives that drive brand awareness and audience growth, in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Develop and execute effective paid social media campaigns to attract new subscribers and engage existing audiences for The Detroit News.
- Support event planning and execution, including promotion, logistics coordination, sponsor integration, and collaboration with editorial staff.
- Attend and represent the brand at all sponsored and promotional events to ensure smooth execution, support partners, and manage on-site responsibilities.
- Build and maintain relationships with external media partners (TV, radio, etc.) to feature our events, talent, and products—this includes writing press releases and managing media outreach.
- Write, negotiate, and execute trade and sponsorship agreements; serve as a point of contact for sponsor relations and benefit fulfillment.
- Partner with editorial teams to identify opportunities that promote content, drive engagement, and support subscription growth.
- Work closely with the Marketing Manager to develop and implement marketing strategies across digital, social, and traditional channels.
- Manage project timelines and budgets, including tracking and reporting on P&L performance.
- Ensure all event-specific duties are executed on schedule and within budget.
- Assist with additional marketing tasks as assigned and collaborate with other Marketing Specialists to ensure successful execution of department-wide events and campaigns.
