About the Role:
We are seeking a strategic, relationship-driven Manager, People & Culture, for a full-time 12-month temporary contract. Supporting leaders across Global News BC and beyond, you will act as a trusted advisor and coach, championing our people first philosophy while navigating the complexities of a fast-paced, unionized environment.
You will report to the Director, People & Culture & Head of Labour Relations and collaborate closely with business leaders and People Team Centre’s of Excellence to drive culture, capability, and performance across the organization.
You will contribute by:
Playing a key role in fostering a high-performing, inclusive culture by:
- Perpetuate a culture of high performance through effective leader recruitment, on-boarding, coaching and feedback
- Counsel leaders on the effective use of professional development plans, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and risk mitigated termination decisions
- Coaching managers on performance management, engagement, and development.
- Partner with leaders on creating an environment where positive employee relations are foundational to the successful outcome of high employee engagement and retention in service of the successful delivery of business objectives
- Advising on employee and labour relations matters, including terminations and progressive discipline.
- Leading, developing and coaching two direct reports, Associate Business Partner and People Team Coordinator.
- Supporting organizational design, compensation reviews, and job evaluations
- Interpreting policies and legislation with clarity and consistency.
- Partnering with Compensation, Benefits, Payroll and Learning and Development
- Interpretation and implementation of relevant employment practices (e.g. Employment and human rights legislation, collective agreements, labour law, CLC)
- Establish strong, trust-based relationships with Union Representatives - Manage grievances
- Working with the Ethics and Conduct Team to implement recommendations from investigations.
Skills and experience you bring:
We are looking for an HR professional who thrives on collaboration, adapts quickly, and brings sound judgment to everything they do.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field.
- CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation is preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience providing guidance on employee/labour relations, investigations, and performance management in a unionized environment.
- Extensive knowledge of HR practices, principles and legislative regulations (i.e., Canada Labour Code).
- Ability to think and perform both strategically & tactically.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, consulting and coaching skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, relationship building and negotiating skills.
- High degree of confidentiality and professional judgment.
- A solutions-focused mindset and the ability to navigate complex situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Must have a high level of organization and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
