USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking digital-first bilingual editor to leadthe Spanish-language reporting and producing team at La Voz.
La Voz is a Spanish-language news product bringing local news coverage of Phoenix and Arizona to Latinos and Spanish speakers. It is the sister publication and bilingual desk of The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com.
Essential Job Duties Include
- This editor will closely monitor and build connections in the Spanish-speaking community of metro Phoenix to craft service journalism and answer reader questions.
- This editor will assign and oversee a combination of breaking news, daily enterprise, feature and multi-sourced stories in Spanish and English in a fast-paced, competitive, 24/7 news cycle.
Typical Job Duties
- Assign and edit community-centered stories ranging from quick-turn breaking to deeper features.
- Use search insights to shape coverage that connects with readers on trending topics.
- Lead a team to break essential Spanish-language news.
- Demonstrate strong news judgment informed by real-world experience.
- Bring fresh ideas about how to best deliver audience-informed coverage.
- Provide cogent analysis of trends and issues.
- Edit quickly, clearly and accurately.
- Engage with readers through various social media platforms, video and podcasts.
Knowledge And Skills
- Spanish fluency required.
- Strong command of AP grammar and style.
- Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce breaking news and long-form content that is clean, accurate and publication ready.
- Use metrics to inform story choices and shape beat strategies.
- Experiment with new ways of informing and engaging audiences across platforms and via alternate story forms.
- Comfort and familiarity with using social media such as Facebook, Instagram and other emerging platforms to enhance reporting and share journalism.
- Established understanding of media ethics and sourcing.
Required Work Experience, Training And Education
- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven newsroom experience.
- Must have required skills including social media, storytelling, analytical ability, interpersonal skills, time management.
