Position Summary
The 2026 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program that runs from June 8 – August 14, 2026. The program gives participants the opportunity to learn about basketball, develop critical career skills, and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues (WNBA, G League, NBA 2K). In addition to on-the-job experience, interns are invited to participate in a broad array of professional development programs and community and social experiences.
Interns should reflect excellent academic standing and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, we look for candidates who possess leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities.

Role Overview
Selected interns will be placed in one of our departments responsible for our internal and external technology, digital products, data strategy and analytics. This includes the following departments:
- Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), whose suite of digital products includes NBA League Pass, the NBA App, and NBA ID
- Information Technology, which designs, develops, and maintain systems and technical infrastructure that support the League’s global operations
- Data and Basketball Strategy & Analytics teams, which delivers data platforms, products, and analysis to inform strategy and decision-making across all aspects of the NBA business and basketball ecosystem.
Selected interns will work on a range of projects. This may include, but is not limited to software development, programming, bug fixes, incident prediction, data analysis, fan engagement studies, database management, interface design, performance improvements, revenue and viewer optimization, and user experience.
Major Responsibilities
May include, but not limited to:
- Collaborating on cornerstone digital products to improve fan experience
- Creating and maintaining user interfaces, optimizing site performance, and ensuring a seamless user experience
- Coordinating with data engineers, data analysts, and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment to the wider NBA business infrastructure
- Designing statistical analysis and visualizations that relate to league structure, rule changes, game play, improvements to the competition format, and implementation of technologies to improve player health, game integrity, and fan engagement across all NBA properties, including the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League
- Performing various cross-departmental quantitative analyses regarding on-court activities and trends, which are used to evaluate the NBA’s core product
- Writing TypeScript/JavaScript code for NBA products across the ever-growing ecosystem of HTML5 powered connected devices (Xbox, PlayStation, Samsung, Hisense, Chromecast, Comcast and others)
- Completing trend analyses, including reviewing events and incidents, and providing summary reports
- Following workflow processes, automations, and integrations
- Iterating AIOPs ML modules based on updated insights and learnings
- Identifying and resolving technical issues and bugs across NBA products and websites
- Integrating data from various sources, such as player statistics, schedules, and live scores, into the website using APIs to enhance the site's content
- Synthesizing business requirements and incorporating them into platform capabilities and scalability
Required Education & Professional Experience
- Enrolled in a graduate degree program majoring in Technology or Data Science
- Technology: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Engineering
- Data Science: Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Marketing Analytics, Marketing Research, Sports Analytics
Preferred Skills & Knowledge Attributes
- Strong understanding of technology and software development
- Able to convey ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience with probability and statistics
- Capable of identifying problems and proposing creative solutions
- Exposure to relational databases and SQL
- Experience or desire to learn scripting languages such as Python or R
- Experience with software engineering and system design
- Intermediate background and experience working with Microsoft Excel
- Professional or course-based experience with analytical projects
