Capitol Broadcasting Company is seeking a team-oriented, self-starter to join our Real Estate division as a full-time Staff Accountant. We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and organized individual with strong interpersonal skills and passion for accuracy. In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting, and various month-end closing tasks. The ideal candidate will be dependable and proactive contributor who ensures financial data is accurate processes are efficient. A successful Staff Accountant in this role will serve as a reliable cornerstone of the Real Estate division’s financial operations.

- Accounts Receivable Management
oProcess and accurately post daily tenant payments (checks, wires/ACH).
oMonitor accounts receivable aging and promptly notify supervisors or property management of any issues, discrepancies or delinquencies.
oCommunicate directly with tenants, prepare and send invoices, address payment discrepancies, and resolve billing related inquiries in a timely manner.
oPrepare percentage rent calculations and tenant utility billbacks.
- Accounts Payable Processing
oSet up new vendors and maintain the vendor master file.
oProcess a high volume of vendor invoices, including data entry, GL coding, and preparing invoices for approval and payment, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
oRetrieve utility invoices from various customer portals.
oIssue annual 1099s.
- General Accounting & Month-End Close Support:
oPerform and/or assist with bank account reconciliations.
oComplete monthly employee expense reimbursement reconciliations.
oActively assist with other month-end closing duties such as booking recurring journal entries and monthly account reconciliations.
oPerform and/or assist with monthly property accounting as assigned.
oSupport audit requests as necessary.
- Process Improvement & Special Projects:
oAdopt a continuous improvement mindset, identifying and implementing opportunities to streamline or enhance accounting processes.
oCollaborate with the Supervisors and peers on special projects as needed.
oContribute to other ad-hoc financial tasks and projects as needed to support the team and organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Accounting or related field with a m inimum of 2-3 years of progressive accounting experience. Accounting Certifications will be considered in lieu of an Associates Degree.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with tenants, vendors, and cross-functional internal teams.
- Proactive, positive, and results-oriented mindset.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with employees at all levels, management, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting software is strongly preferred.
- Experience with accounting for multiple entities/divisions/locations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business from a four-year college or university.
Physical Demands
- Able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds boxes.
Work Conditions
- This is a full-time, on-site position, requiring 5 days in the office at our Durham, NC location.
- Flexibility in work arrangements may be granted at the supervisor's discretion, based on business needs and individual performance.
