Job Summary/Description:
WFSB is looking for a driven, self-starting Digital News Content Creator to join our newsroom team. This is primarily a field-based, short-form video role, but make no mistake, we are looking for a journalist first. We want someone who lives and breathes TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts and brings the same editorial standards and storytelling instincts to digital that we expect in our broadcast newsroom.
The right candidate doesn't wait to be told what to do; they're already out the door, camera in hand, chasing the story. Creativity and innovation are essential to this role. We want someone who is constantly thinking of new ways to tell local stories, experiment with formats, and push our digital presence forward.
The core of this job is developing, shooting, and publishing multiple vertical short-form videos every day, finding viral-worthy local stories, getting out in the field to shoot them, and turning them around quickly for our digital audiences. The ideal candidate can act independently on news tips, confirm information with officials, craft engaging headlines and posts, and support breaking news coverage across platforms. This position will also fill in on weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.

What You'll Primarily Do:
• Develop story ideas with viral and social media potential, you pitch, you produce, you publish
• Go out in the field and shoot vertical video optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
• Produce and post multiple short-form videos throughout the day, every day
• Apply strong journalistic standards, verify facts, confirm information with officials, and report with accuracy and integrity
• Bring creativity and innovation to every story, experiment with formats, styles, and approaches to digital storytelling
• Identify trending topics and local stories that resonate with digital audiences
• Act independently on news tips and confirm information with officials
• Craft engaging headlines, captions, and posts that drive views and engagement
• Support breaking news coverage across all platforms
• Fill in on weekends, nights, and holidays as needed
Additional Responsibilities:
• Plan and edit video as assigned for WFSB's various digital platforms
• Create custom social media graphics for WFSB's various digital platforms
• Cut video from TV newscasts for use in articles on WFSB.com & YouTube
• Monitor WFSB programming for compelling video that can be featured on our digital platforms
• Communicate and collaborate as part of a team in the newsroom
• Post content to social media

• A journalist at heart, strong news judgment, editorial integrity, and a commitment to accuracy
• Proven ability to shoot and edit vertical video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
• A self-starter mentality, you identify stories, go get them, and post without being asked
• Creative and innovative thinker who is always looking for fresh ways to tell stories and engage audiences
• High daily output mindset, comfortable producing several short-form videos per day
• Knowledge of nonlinear video editing and graphic design specifically for social media platforms
• Proficiency with platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram
• Ability to edit news stories in various formats for various digital platforms
• Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced newsroom environment
• Ability to work independently, verify information, and make sound editorial decisions
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
