Job DescriptionThe Photographer/Videographer is responsible for visually documenting newsworthy events, human interest stories, and various assignments to support the department's mission. This role combines technical photography skills with a journalist's eye for storytelling, producing compelling images that inform, engage, and inspire audiences across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
Responsibilities - Capture high-quality photos and videos on and off campus, documenting construction projects, news, cultural activities, business, and community stories related to Facilities Services.
- Orchestrate photo shoots, including managing the environment and timeline.
- Photograph/video interesting features and team events related to Facilities Services.
- Work with the Communications Manager to ensure all visual content aligns with the university's branding and style guidelines.
- Collaborate with Facilities Services teams, social media managers, and designers to create cohesive multimedia packages.
- Assist in developing creative concepts for visual storytelling.
- Edit and process images using professional editing software to meet publication standards while maintaining the integrity of the subject matter.
- Distribute images as required.
- Uses industry standard software to ensure proper and appropriate metadata is embedded in all images.
- Organize, archive, and maintain a comprehensive photo library for future use, ensuring proper metadata and copyright information is attached.
- Network within the department as well as the campus community to find story and visual ideas to generate content in support of internal and external communication and PR goals.
- Make technical and creative decisions about which angles, positions, times of day/year, and equipment would best achieve goals of the assignment.
- Maintain and manage photography equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Adhere strictly to professional journalistic ethics, including accuracy, fairness, and respect for subjects' dignity and privacy.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies (software/equipment), and best practices in photojournalism and digital media.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications - Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: 2-3 years of relevant working experience in a journalistic environment, either through internships or freelance work - or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- (ex: an Associate's degree and 1 year of relevant work experience would satisfy this requirement)
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Proven experience as a photojournalist or similar role.
- Proficiency in photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
- Strong portfolio showcasing photography and videography skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Other Conditions:
- Valid Driver's license
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
