The AVP, International Controller leads the controllership function for BMI’s international operations, with end-to-end responsibility for statutory and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, US GAAP reporting into the parent company, and intercompany coordination. This role manages a multi-jurisdiction finance team and serves as the critical bridge between international subsidiaries and the US parent company’s centralized accounting, tax, and finance organizations. This position combines deep technical accounting expertise with enterprise-level leadership, cross-border financial governance, and commercial awareness to support a growing global platform.
Key Functions:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and oversee the monthly and annual close process for all international entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
- Coordinate local GAAP/IFRS reconciliations where required.
- Deliver complete reporting packages to the US parent accounting team.
- Support global consolidation, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Own all statutory reporting obligations across international jurisdictions.
- Oversee preparation and filing of statutory accounts, tax returns, VAT/GST submissions, and regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with Companies House or equivalent regulatory bodies.
- Manage audit readiness and statutory audit coordination across all international entities.
Intercompany & Parent Coordination
- Serve as primary finance liaison between international entities and US parent accounting.
- Oversee intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and settlements.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing policies in collaboration with Tax.
- Manage royalty accounting and cross-border financial arrangements.
Financial Planning & Analysis Support
- Provide accurate financial inputs into FP&A cycles including budgets and forecasts.
- Deliver variance analysis and commentary for international performance.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis to inform business decision-making.
Team Leadership
- Manage and develop direct reports.
- Set priorities, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Revenue Accounting
- Partner with business stakeholders on revenue accounting matters, including revenue recognition under ASC 606, ensuring proper treatment across jurisdictions.
Audit, Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Act as key international finance contact for external audits (statutory and group audits).
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
- Ensure remediation of audit findings and control deficiencies.
- Strengthen financial governance across all international entities.
Revenue Accounting & Technical Accounting
- Partner with business stakeholders on revenue recognition under ASC 606.
- Ensure consistent application of accounting standards across jurisdictions.
- Resolve complex technical accounting issues involving multi-entity structures.
Tax & Treasury Collaboration
- Partner with Tax on international tax compliance and reporting obligations.
- Support withholding tax, indirect tax, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with Treasury on cash management and intercompany funding.
Systems, Process Improvement & Transformation
- Support ERP and global finance system initiatives.
- Participate in system migrations and finance transformation projects.
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and process standardization.
- Drive continuous improvement in international accounting operations.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and manage a multi-jurisdiction finance team.
- Set clear priorities and performance expectations.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to finance team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Professional accounting qualification required (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Significant experience in international, multi-entity environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP required.
- Working knowledge of IFRS and/or UK GAAP (FRS 102) strongly preferred.
- Proven experience leading and developing finance teams across geographies.
- Strong ERP experience (Oracle Cloud, Oracle EBS, Sage, or similar).
- Excellent communication skills with ability to partner across global time zones.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to balance technical rigor and commercial pragmatism.
