A Side: A Day in The Life
The role is a position within the Global Finance team reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Technical Accounting. The Global Financial Reporting team is responsible for: the consolidation of the global operating company results, preparation of the Groups financial statements, review of the financial reporting of the operating companies, communicating the results to the corporate shareholder and providing analysis and presentations on group financial reporting to management. The team also closely supports the UMG CFO and UMG Board, and provides assistance to the Heads of Finance in the operating companies.
The Senior Analyst will take the lead on the financial reporting of the Group’s Global equity plan, Share-Based Payments (“IFRS 2”). The role will also contribute to the delivery of the group’s financial reporting process, completion and reviewing of key month-end processes and analysis (including consolidation entries) and supporting on the practical implementation of the Group Accounting Policies.
Fulfilling these key responsibilities will require liaising closely with several other teams and departments both inside and outside the Global Finance department.
B Side: Skills & Experience
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in the reporting of the Group’s Global equity plan workstream and drive the improvement of existing processes. This includes being the primary contact and process owner, directing the planning and forecasting processes for regional jurisdictions in this area, preparation and review of controls, and provide high quality financial insight into the Group’s Global equity plan to key stakeholders.
- Supporting on technical accounting matters where they arise, for example within IFRS 2 Share-Based Payments, Music Catalogue or Investment transaction activity etc.
- Ownership of other specific group focus areas for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Ensure there is maintenance of the data and financial system structure to enable the efficient and effective production.
- Support in the analysis and presentation of the Group Management Accounts to be shared with key senior management and Groups financial statement.
- Ensuring completion of key month-end processes and Group level analysis, including consolidation entries and central adjustments.
- Responsibility for functional processes as part of the UMG NV consolidation.
- Review, implementation and monitoring of financial controls and control environment on a continuous basis.
- Assist with the audit process for the Group.
- Provide additional off-cycle support to Senior Manager, Global Technical Accounting, Senior Director, Global Financial Reporting and SVP, Global Financial Reporting and Analysis.
- Development and maintenance of KPIs for financial reporting.
Person Specification
Essential
- A qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience in financial controls and accounting, either from within business or as an auditor. 2 years+ post qualification experience essential.
- Experience in financial reporting requirements, specifically IFRS and interpretation of new standards. Previous knowledge and experience with IFRS 2 is an advantage but not essential.
- Ability to manage and coach junior team members and provide support to colleagues at all levels including training where necessary.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form. In addition, must be able to explain/present results (especially financial) in a clear, accurate and concise form.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with ability to manage own workload in a pressurised environment and work to tight deadlines.
- Experience in using innovative technical solutions to drive efficiencies and solve problems.
- Ability to apply knowledge from previous global experiences and share knowledge and insight.
- Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with colleagues and lead firmwide teams of mixed grades and experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop strong relationships with colleagues from the different territories within Universal Music.
- Excellent analytical skills and experience building excel spreadsheets up to macro level.
- Interest in music with an enthusiasm to work within the industry.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Hyperion products would be advantageous.
